No niin, taas kerran päästään tänne rustailemaan. Asiat on melko lailla samalla mallilla kuin viimeksikin. Asun yhä täällä Edgecliffissä ja viikon päästä muutan tuohon vastapäiseen huoneeseen, kun yksi kämppiksistä lähtee kolmeksi viikoksi Eurooppaan. Alkuperäisestä poiketen oon nyt sitten kuitenkin päättänyt jäädä Sydneyyn vähän pidemmäksi aikaa. Tarkoitus olisi kerryttää vähän enemmän tuota matkabudjettia, ettei tarvitse sitten töiden suhteen heti alkaa stressaamaan, kun täältä lähden. Oon tehnyt jonkin verran reittisuunnitelmaa ja sen varrella on kaikenlaista nähtävää kuten valaita, kenguruita, koalia sekä Frasier Island, Whitsunday Islands ja Magnetic Island, jotka haluan totta kai päästä näkemään. Nämä tietenkin syövät sitten Ayers Rockin ohella melko suuren potin tuosta matkabudjetista! Parempi siis varautua.
Työt on nyt lähteneet käyntiin oikein mukavasti. Tai tätä mieltä ainakin itse olen. Siivouksen tms. suhteen alkaa olla tekniikat kohdallaan ja food preparationitkin sujuu jo hyvin. Mustekalat, yrtit ynnä muut pyörii käsissä lähes kuin ammattilaisella. Viime viikon lauantai oli tosi kiireinen päivä (tippiä tuli!) ja hyvinhän siitä selvittiin. Täytyy myöntää, että tietyllä tavalla jopa nautin siitä kiireestä. Aika kuluu huomattavasti nopeammin, kun pitää juosta pää kolmantena jalkana ympäri keittiötä.

Sään puolesta on myös ollut parannusta. Hetken aikaa oli todella sateista, kylmää (13 astetta) ja tuulista, mutta nyt on ollut aurinkoista taas noin viikon verran. Tuo 13 astetta on ehkäpä kylmintä, mitä täällä Sydneyssä voi kokea. Ei se nyt suomalaiselle niin kylmää ole, vaikka siinä vilpoinen tuulikin puhaltaisi. Australialaisille se on kuitenkin todella kylmä. Porukka kulkee pipot ja toppatakit päällä tuolla ulkona. Työkaverit taas naureskelevat mulle, kun tulen yhä ne samat shortsit päällä töihin, satoi tai paistoi. Sisälämpötilat on sitten taas asia aivan erikseen. Täällä kun ei tuota eristystä tunneta samassa mittakaavassa kuin Suomessa niin talot tuppaavat olemaan melko kylmiä. Kuumailmapuhallin on meikäläisen huoneessa päällä lähes koko ajan.

Viime viikonloppu varsinkin oli todella kaunis ilmojen suhteen. Sunnuntaina kävin tekemässä noin 10 kilometrin rantakävelyn Watsons Bayhyn, joka on pieni niemenkärki Sydneyn sataman sisääntuloaukolla. Siellä on majakka, muutama hassu kallio ja erittäin hienot maisemat. Koko sen ajan kun reittiä pitkin kävelee, voi nähdä keskustan pilvenpiirtäjät. Loppua kohden ne on ihan pienen pieniä siellä horisontissa. Merellä taas näkyi kymmeniä, ellei satoja purhjehtijoita.
Maanantai oli myös sään suhteen hyvä päivä. En tosin päässyt sängystä ylös aivan niin aikaisin, mutta ehdin kuitenkin tehdä pienen kaupunkikierroksen Woollahran ja Paddingtonin kautta Surru Hillssin alueelle ja sieltä edelleen Redferniin, josta otin metron takaisin Edgecliffiin. Tuossa välimaastossa sijaitsee myös kaksi suurta puistoa, Moore Park ja Centennial Park, joiden kukkuloilta avautuu hienot näkymät kaupungin ylle.

Töissä kun on aina aikaa ajatella asioita niin selväähän se on, että välillä pyörii ajatukset koti-Suomessakin. Viime viikonloppuna oli Provinssirock, johon ainakin meikäläinen on viimeisenä kolmena vuotena aina osallistunut ja tänä viikonloppuna sitten juhannus. No, täällä noista ei kumpaakaan tunneta eli ihan normaali viikonloppu on taas vuorossa. Kaikesta huolimatta täällä menee kuitenkin erittäin hyvin. Ajatukset alkaa olla jo tulevassa Queenslandin matkassa. Saas nähdä minne kaikkialle sitä loppujen lopuksi päätyy. Täällä kun on tuota nähtävää melko lailla!

Again it is time for me to give you another update. Things are pretty much similar to what they were in my last post. I’m still living in Edgecliff and in a week I’ll be shifting to another room in the apartment, as one of my flatmates is going overseas for 3 weeks. Originally I had only thought about spending a few weeks here in Sydney, but now it actually appears that I’ll be staying here for a little bit longer. I need to do some more saving up for my trip to the North so that I can be stress free from job hunting for a while when I’m gone. I’ve been also doing a little bit of planning in terms of my route and it seems there are many interesting things that I want to see on the way, including whales, kangaroos and koalas as well as exotic island, such as Frasier Island, Whitsunday Islands and Magnetic Island. These and the Ayers Rock will definitely take a considerable part of my budget. I’d better be prepared for that!
What it comes to my work, I think it’s going pretty fine too. Or that’s at least how I think of it. I’ve developed some techniques with regards to cleaning etc. and the food preparations are starting to get quite smooth as well. Last Saturday was extremely busy (got some tips again!) and I managed it well. I must even admit I enjoyed it. The time flies when there are many things to do.

The weather has gotten better as well. For a while, it was rainy, cloudy, cold (13 degrees Celsius) and windy. For the past week, however, it has been better. 13 degrees (55 F) here, is viewed very cold and people are literally taking out their thermo boots, thick jackets and caps. I just find that very funny. My coworkers laugh at me when I come to work only wearing my shorts. Temperatures inside is another thing. The insulation here is not that good and the temperatures tend to get very low. I constantly have my heater on when I’m inside, because otherwise it would be freezing and I don’t like to wear a lot of stuff.

Last weekend was particularly pretty in terms of the weather. On Sunday I did a 10 kilometer coastal walk to nearby Watsons Bay, which is a small peninsula by the entrance to Sydney Harbour. It has a little light house, some cliffs and very nice views over to the city as well as the Tasman Sea. The whole time you’re walking along the coastline you can see the city skyline getting smaller and smaller. At the sea you can see tens, if not hundreds, of sail boats making their way in and out of the harbor.

Monday’s weather was good as well. I did not get up that early, though so I missed some of it. I managed to do a little tour in the city area. I walked to Surry Hills through Woollahra and Paddington and further down to Redfern. I also visited Moore Park on the way, where alongside Centennial Park you can catch a very nice view over Sydney CBD.
Recently some of my thoughts have been in Finland. They have had Provinssirock and the Midsummer is coming up this weekend. Here, however, we are just about to have another weekend without anything special about it. Things are still very well and I try to think about my upcoming trip as much as I can. It’ll be exciting to see where I’ll end up going, as there are heaps of things to see in Australia!
